A few things to know
before you send the link.
Do my guests need an app or an account?
No app download and no account to create. Guests open your album link or scan its QR code in their phone’s browser to view and contribute. You manage the album from your own account.
What can I do during the free trial?
When hosted Gather launches, you can try Gather for seven days with up to ten images and 50 MB of total storage. Explore the designs and see how your photos feel in the album before choosing the $79 managed plan.
Are all the themes included?
Yes. The $79 managed plan includes every theme, including Atelier and Cinema, plus their customization options. You can adjust typography, colours and layouts without buying another tier.
Does Gather keep my original photos?
Photos are compressed for the album, so downloaded photos are not untouched camera originals. “Keep original photo metadata” is on by default: available capture time, GPS, camera and lens information stays in the downloadable compressed photo. You can switch this off for new uploads. Keep your camera originals separately if you need them.
Is self-hosting really free?
Yes. Gather’s self-hosted edition is free and open source under Apache-2.0. There is no Gather subscription, trial expiry or commercial storage quota. Run one album per deployment on your own server with Docker; capacity depends on your hardware and settings. Six themes are included. Atelier and Cinema are exclusive to managed hosting.
Is this just for weddings?
Weddings are a lovely place to start. Gather also works for birthdays, family weekends and other get-togethers. Give your album a name, choose its design and invite your people to contribute.
